We were offered what sounded like a great opportunity from a door-to-door salesman: a “free” roof instead of a $12,000 project. It sounded straight forward so we signed the contract as millions do every year. It felt like we were getting a deal!
What we didn’t fully realize at the time was that buried in the fine print was an Assignment of Insurance Benefits (AIB) clause.
Using the AIB language in the contract, the contractor went directly to our insurance company and collected $40,000 for that same roof. We didn’t see a single dime of that claim, but we absolutely felt the consequences.
Shortly after, our insurance premium skyrocketed since the claim was now part of our loss history. The message from the carrier was clear: pay the new premium or be dropped. They told us,
“You can certainly try to shop around for other insurance, but good luck with that claim on your back.”
These days, most insurance companies in Florida will drop you with that kind of loss history on your record – and like they said, good luck finding new insurance.
If it happened to us, it can happen to anyone. We don’t want homeowners going through the same experience. We’ve spent decades in construction and still experienced how confusing and overwhelming roofing decisions and contracts can be.
Too often, people trust the process without realizing it usually isn’t built around their best interests. That’s why we built MSTG Roofing differently—focused on clarity, honesty, and doing right by the homeowner.
What you can expect from us:
We stand behind our work and our word because we’re here for the long run. Roofing shouldn’t feel stressful or uncertain, so you deserve to feel confident, informed, and taken care of. Our goal is simple: make sure you never fall into the same situation we did!
